5 Active Adventures in the Caribbean

Happy Friday, friends!

Caribbean and Adventure are two words that don’t often end up in the same sentence. Most people think of the Caribbean as a place to go relax, chill on the beach with a cocktail in hand, and literally...do nothing.

A truly relaxing vacation in the Caribbean is perfect for lots of people. Some folks are really stressed out in their everyday lives and the best way they can truly relax is to step away and unplug from reality for a while. We plan those types of trips pretty often for our clients and it fits their needs perfectly.

Some people get bored with the beach after a day or two. There are only so many naps you can take while the sun burns an imprint of your book on your belly. If you want to see more than the bottom of your glass of rum punch, here are some ideas for unique adventures in the Caribbean:

Dive with Dolphins in the Bahamas

Spend a week or more living aboard a luxurious yacht, sailing the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.

Eat amazing food, scuba dive and snorkel to your heart’s content, and enjoy the myriad of wildlife, including Atlantic Spotted Dolphins.

A room on a yacht is surprisingly affordable and includes all meals, drinks, and a crew to attend to your every need.

Hike a Long Trail in Dominica

Known as the Nature Island, Dominica is a hot spot in the Caribbean for those who love to explore and get off the beaten path.

Here, you can hike the Waitukubuli Trail. At 114 miles, Waitukubuli is the longest trail in the Caribbean. Choose one of 15 segments for a shorter day out, or be one of the brave souls to hike it all the way through.

Along the way you’ll see a variety of plants, animals, and crustaceans. Another bonus of Dominica is that there are no poisonous animals! You can read more about the Waitukubuli trail here.

Go Caving in Belize

There are many caves in Western Belize. One of the best is Actun Tunichil Muknal, affectionately known as the “ATM” cave.

This adventure is not for the faint of heart. You’ll be wading or swimming through the narrow channels guided by the light of your headlamp.

None of the artifacts in the ATM cave have been excavated or removed, which means you get to see the cave and its Mayan artifacts as they were left centuries ago, including the remains of 4 unfortunate souls that met their demise in the main chamber.

You need a guide to enter this national treasure. Don’t worry, we can hook you up with the best guides in the country.

Adventure in Costa Rica

While Costa Rica might not be considered part of the "official" Caribbean by some, it is bordered by the Caribbean Sea so we’re including it on our list of top adventure spots.

A multi-sport vacation is the best way to experience all that Costa Rica has to offer. Try your hand at kayaking Lake Arenal for a unique view of this spectacular volcano.

A canopy tour is a must-do, and the river rafting in Costa Rica is excellent year-round. If all that adventure wears you out, a couple of days relaxing on the coast is the perfect ending to your trip. Check out a suggested trip here: Costa Rica for 2

Go Beyond All-Inclusive in Mexico

With a stay at the Hotel Xcaret in Mexico, so much more is included beyond food and drinks.

Enjoy unlimited access to 9 different adventure parks, which means you can swim in cenotes, kayak calm waters, hike through jungles, explore Mayan archeological sites, overcome the challenges of a high ropes course, discover an underwater river and more, all without your wallet!

Hotel Xcaret defined the term “fun-inclusive” and no one else has come close to the offerings they can provide.
